Advanced MYL Training: Formal Mediation
The Advanced MYL trainings are for people who have completed at least one full year of the Choosing Peace Immersion Program (the 3 intensives), and who want to apply the MYL skills and maps to contributing to the world/society beyond your personal life in some way, including mediating conflicts, conflict coaching, political engagement, or sharing a process for difficult conversations that creates empathic connection, compassion, and collaboration with individuals and organizations. In these trainings, you will experience deep skill development working with the intensity of conflict in difficult conversations. The training is designed around learning and practicing in the context of formal mediation and conflict coaching, but you don’t need to want to be a professional mediator or coach to do this training. You can do one or both trainings, depending on the area(s) of learning and application you want to develop, and you can take them in whichever order you wish.
Based on more than 15 years of professional mediation experience and training in these skills and with high intensity conflict situations, the Formal Mediation workshop offers in-depth experiential training with the 9 mediation skills. As mediator you can dial up and down the difficulty/intensity level in role play practice to customize your learning experience in a safe, supportive learning environment.
To maximize your learning and growth, you rotate through the roles of mediator and disputants, give and receive supportive peer feedback, and receive in-the-moment coaching. The retreat will also offer the Healing & Reconciliation map for mediating conflicts based in unresolved emotional hurt, as well as maps for pre- and post-mediation with clients and mediator self-care.
In the evenings you will have the opportunity to watch longer demonstrations and engage in in-depth Q&A on process and working as a professional.
*** This workshop is designed for in-depth learning and practice in the context of formally mediating conflicts between people based on the work of Mediate Your Life and Nonviolent Communication (NVC). It is not the standard 40-hour mediator training program that covers all of the more general foundations of becoming a professional mediator.
